Responsible Ministry

We have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us: prophecy, in proportion to faith; ministry, in ministering; the teacher, in teaching.
- Romans 12:6-7

If you are here to complete the required forms to volunteer with Corpus Christi Parish, Welcome and Thank You.

The Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth has implemented a policy and procedures to foster a safe environment for all those who interact with the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth. Our parish follows these procedures in our interactions with children, youth and vulnerable adults.

If you are taking part in activities at any of the churches in Corpus Christi Parish you will be asked to complete the Responsible Ministry process. This includes completing the required forms, agreeing to a criminal records check and becoming familiar with the Responsible Ministry protocols laid out in the manuals prepared by the Archdiocese. We hold information sessions on Responsible Ministry for our volunteers and staff.

Volunteers and staff at Corpus Christi Parish must review and follow the Responsible Ministry Protocol.    Responsible Ministry Protocol

Adult Volunteers

Adult Volunteers are responsible for familiarizing themselves with the Responsible Ministry Protocol as prepared and published by the Archdiocese of Halifax Yarmouth which includes completing the following forms and submitting to criminal record checks that may also include a vulnerable sector check. Until your criminal record check is completed, and the results have been received  you cannot be officially appointed to your volunteer role.

The Responsible Ministry Coordinator is available to answer any questions you may have regarding following the protocol in your new volunteer role.

There are some steps for you to complete as an adult volunteer.  You will need to complete 2 forms that will be emailed to you from the Diocese. These forms are sent via Docusign. If you do not have email, the Volunteer Information Sheet and Covenant of Care Forms need to be completed and submitted. These can be filled in and emailed to the Parish office.

Next, go to your nearest RCMP detachment to request a Criminal Records Check including the Vulnerable Sector Check.  If there is a fee associated with this request, please submit the receipt to the Parish Responsible Ministry (PRM) Coordinator or Parish Office for reimbursement.

If you are working with youth or vulnerable parishioners, you will also need to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check.  You will need a letter from the PRM Coordinator to present to the police for this check.  Please email the PRM Coordinator or call the Kentville Parish Office to obtain this letter.

Upon obtaining your completed Police Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerable Sector Check, forward the original of the results to the Kentville Parish Office or the Diocesan Responsible Ministry (DRM) Coordinator by mail or delivered by hand to:

Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth
Diocesan Responsible Ministry Coordinator
1559 Brunswick St., Suite 101
Halifax, Nova Scotia B3J 2G1

Your next step is to let the PRC know that you have sent your Police Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerable Sector Check, if applicable, to the Archdiocese.

The Archdiocese will send you an email once they have received your documentation and will provide you with details on how to complete the online training program called SafeFaith. It will take about 30 minutes to do and reviews the different aspects of our Responsible Ministry protocol and has a few quizzes to do as you go through the training.  Upon successfully completing all these steps you will be ready to  take up your role.   You must renew your documentation once every three years.  The Archdiocese maintains a database and you will receive a reminder when it is time to renew.  Thank you for volunteering to serve.

Youth Volunteers

Youth volunteers are always welcome at Corpus Christi. In your role, you are helping to share the Good News. You must have parental permission to participate as a volunteer and you must understand the Responsible Ministry protocol and follow it at all times. You will need to complete 2 forms that will be emailed to you from the Diocese. These forms are sent via Docusign. If you do not have email, the Vouth Volunteer Permission Letter and Covenant of Care Forms need to be completed and submitted. These can be filled in and emailed to the Parish office.
